How this calculator works
Tile calculation starts with room area. Multiply length × width in the same units (meters or feet) to get m² or ft². Divide that by the tile area (tile length × width) to get the number of tiles needed.
Add wastage — typically 10% for straight edges, 15% for complex patterns. Tiles break during cutting, fitting around fixtures, and handling. Always round up. Divide the final tile count by tiles-per-box (check your product sheet) to get boxes to order.
- Standard floor tiles: 300×300 mm (10–20 pieces/box, ~1 m² coverage)
- Large format tiles: 600×600 mm (6–10 pieces/box, ~2.5 m² coverage)
- Subway tiles: 300×600 mm (8–12 pieces/box, ~1.8 m² per box)
- Always check your product box — coverage varies by thickness and joint size
Common room sizes and tile requirements
| Room type | Area (m²) | 300×300 tiles | Boxes (10/box) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bathroom | 4 m² | 44 (with 10% waste) | 5 boxes |
| Kitchen | 8 m² | 88 | 9 boxes |
| Living room | 20 m² | 220 | 22 boxes |
| Bedroom | 12 m² | 132 | 14 boxes |
| Entryway/Hallway | 6 m² | 66 | 7 boxes |
Add 10–15% extra depending on pattern complexity and your comfort level.
